Movies and readings over break

OK - so here is the assignments to work on over break:

1) Finish the notes and note cards for Unit 11 - I will check them first class after we get back

2) Catch up on notes and readings from other chapters (if necessary)

3) Read the chapter on Vietnam by Godfrey Hodgson linked on the right

4) Watch two of the following three movies:

Mississippi Burning (available for rent on VUDU)

Platoon (Available for rent on Amazon.com)

             Easy Rider (available on Netflix)

(Please realize that these are all R-rated movies, covering very intense and shocking material, with a number of violent scenes).

After watching two of these movies please write a one-two page, single spaced response to the following question:

The 1960s was a time of transition for the United States - an occasion championed by the youth of America. How did these movies capture the role of the youth (approx 17-25 yo) in the social, political and cultural change that occurred in the US during the 1960s.

This paper will not be due until May 5th in class.

Note cards and notes due after break

Due to popular request, note cards and the checking of notebooks will not be due tomorrow, but after break. This should give people a chance to study for the exam exclusively and take time to take good notes over the break!

Good luck!

No Seminar Tuesday 4/15 and Unit Exam on 4/17

Hi all:

There will be no seminar Tuesday and the Unit 11 exam will be on Thursday. Be warned you will be answering TWO FRQs in class!

In lieu of the seminar, I am going to assign some movies to watch over break, covering the 1960s period. I will inform you which movies to watch in class.
